Gorilla trekking enthusiasts should aim for the dry seasons, occurring from June to August and December to February. During these periods, the trails within the dense rainforests are less muddy, and visibility is improved due to sparser foliage. This makes the challenging hikes to find the gorilla families slightly easier and enhances your viewing experience.
Wildlife viewing in Uganda's savanna parks is also exceptional during the dry seasons. Animals tend to gather around the limited water sources, making spotting iconic species like lions, elephants, and giraffes more likely. These clear, dry conditions are also perfect for wildlife photography. With abundant sunshine and breathtaking scenery, you'll capture stunning images of Uganda's rich biodiversity.
Birders will find Uganda a paradise regardless of the season. With over 1,000 species, there's always something spectacular to see. However, if you're keen on spotting migratory birds, time your travels between November and April. Even if migratory birds aren't your focus, the dry seasons (June to August and December to February) still offer advantages like easier access to birding hotspots within national parks and better overall visibility.

Essential Information
Visas and Entry
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Uganda. You can apply for an e-visa online in advance or obtain a visa on arrival. Be sure to double-check the latest requirements and allow enough processing time.
Vaccinations and Health
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry. Consult your doctor about other recommended vaccinations like Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Malaria prevention medication.
Currency and Exchange
The Ugandan Shilling (UGX) is the local currency. While major foreign currencies can be exchanged, it's wise to have some local cash for smaller purchases and tips. ATMs are available in larger towns.
Getting Around
Transport options include domestic flights for longer distances, car hire with a driver for flexibility, or the adventurous "boda bodas" (motorcycle taxis) for short hops. Public buses are also available.

Gorilla Trekking
If gorilla trekking is on your bucket list, permits are essential. Book these well in advance as they are limited and can sell out quickly. A permit is $800 for an hour's experience and $1500 for habituation experience

English and Swahili are official languages, but many other local languages are spoken. Learning a few basic greetings in Luganda (the most widely spoken local language) will be warmly appreciated.
Power Adapters
Uganda uses the Type G three-pin plug. Bring an adapter to keep your electronics charged. Many lodges have internet WiFi in common areas but don't expect high and reliable internet speeds outside the cities.
Tipping
Tipping is not a must in Uganda. But a small gratuity for guides, drivers, and hospitality staff is appreciated. You can give your tip directly to the person or use a tip box at the reception to appreciate all the staff at the hotel or camp.
