Looking across our closest living relatives as we enter the misty forests of western Uganda is really moving. Set against the setting of the richest rainforest primate habitat in the world, our chimpanzee trekking in Uganda experiences at Valiant Safaris are meticulously planned to engulf you in the life ways of these amazing apes.
Why pick us for chimpanzee treks in Uganda?
Choosing a primate safari company, we know, is quite personal. Let us make clear why our Uganda chimpanzee trekking packages surpass others head and shoulders:
Seasoned experts and regional conservation allies
Working closely with Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers whose thorough understanding of chimpanzee movements guarantees always remarkable sightings. This insider knowledge lets us quickly lead you along well-worn game trails, bypass lengthy, purposeless walks, and best your one-hour viewing session—often with chimps playing just meters away.
Tailored, little group excursions
Our excursions are small so that we can more closely link you to the fauna and surroundings. While other operators lead more numerous groups, our approach gives immersional, individual experiences of top importance—ideal for photographers, nature enthusiasts, and reflective travelers as well.

Low-impact safari approach ethically
Primates’ well-being comes first. Under tight guidelines, trekking is carried out with masks to lower infection transmission, kept at safe distances, and limited to one hour per chimp family. Furthermore, we stay away from busy viewing areas and steer clear of interrupting typical chimp behavior.
Hand‑picked lodges near the action
From our comfortable accommodations near Kibale to the calm camps at Kyambura Gorge and Budongo, we make sure every night’s stay reduces travel time and maximizes comfort—right where the jungle adventure starts. No other operator pays as much attention to wildlife as well as tourist well-being.
Where We Trail: Incredible Primate Locations
Uganda has to offer: We bring you to the finest chimp‑habitat areas.
Kibale National Park
Known as Africa’s “Primate Capital,” this rich forest is home to more than 1,200–1,500 chimpanzees spread across several habituated groups, thus sightings are reliably rewarding. Well-established hiking routes abound here, and sightings of chimps as well as other primates and abundant birdlife are nearly certain.
Kyambura Gorge – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Carved into the edge of the rift valley, this magical gorge houses a tiny “lost” chimp population and hundreds of colobus, baboons, and rare bird species. Expect a steeper, adventure‑filled descent and quieter, more intimate encounters.
Budongo Forest Reserve
With about 600 chimps, this semi‑deciduous forest is also a popular location for chimp trekking. Eco-minded visitors would be best served by pathways traversing research regions replete with wild sounds and centuries-old trees. Combining these pioneering areas, we design itineraries suited to your speed and interests—whether you’re seeking to include gorilla trekking, wildlife cruises, or cultural visits.
Kalinzu Forest Reserve
Kalinzu Forest Reserve is Nestled near the banks of the Kazinga Channel in western Uganda, a magnificent and biodiverse expanse of pristine rainforest, offering a more secluded and intimate trekking alternative to the larger primate parks.
This 137-square-kilometer reserve is a vital conservation area, renowned for its thriving population of chimpanzees, with several communities habituated for tourism. Beyond our charismatic cousins, the forest is a primate haven, home to five other species including black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, and blue monkeys.
Its rich ecosystem, comprising of mixed tropical and bamboo forest, also shelters over 414 bird species and 378 butterfly species, making every trek a multi-layered nature walk.
The experience of tracking chimpanzees in Kalinzu is often described as more adventurous and immersive, as the dense foliage and complex terrain make the eventual encounter, a cacophony of hoots and calls as the chimps move through the canopy feel like a true wilderness discovery.

What to Anticipate on Your Chimp Trek
Your Chimpanzee Trekking in Uganda experience plays out as follows:
1.Early morning meeting
You will meet your Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger, receive a safety briefing, conservation rules; including wearing facemasks and keeping at least 8–10 meters from the chimpanzees, and learn the dos and don’ts at park Headquarters.
2.Following new paths
We traverse woodland paths and light bushwhacks guided by scouts that follow chimp colonies every day. Depending on the chimpanzees’ feeding location, trails can run anything from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
3.Chimpanzees encounter one hour long
Once discovered, we watch under careful ranger oversight for one hour. It’s a time to watch, learn, and experience up close the complex social dynamics of chimp groups as they play, groom, and swing across the canopy.
Usually after that we go back, sometimes ending with a bush meal or return to our lodge to the lodge for a hot lunch, replete with fresh stories and pictures.
The Ideal Time for Chimpanzee Treks
During Uganda’s dry seasons, chimp trekking is ideal:
December to February, June to September.
Dryer and simpler to walk, the trails provide more openness for the chimps to be active.
Still, chimpanzees roam all year, and our skilled tour guides are very good at locating them rain or shine.
How do we distinguish ourselves from the “others” ?
More profound local understanding
Personal ties with rangers, trackers, and environmental organizations have developed naturally. Compared to bigger companies, that trust and insider collaboration translates to faster access, fewer tourists, and more interesting experiences.
customized trekking combinations
Other businesses offer single-park hikes. Giving you the whole Uganda wildlife package without additional preparation, we create immersive travels that may include Kibale, Kyambura, Budongo, even gorilla trekking next to boat safaris.
Traveler-centric, flexible design
We adjust whether your tastes lean toward soothing woodland hikes, photography-centric excursions, or adrenaline-fueled canyon drops. The speed is under your control, and we deliver.
