
The Kasenyi plains are the South Eastern part of Kasese district in the Western part of Uganda. They are within Queen Elizabeth National Park which is the most famous and visited park in Uganda. The Kasenyi plains are on the Western shores of the gorgeous Lake George, in the North Eastern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
This area is also known as the Mweya region. It is an area of open savannah swarmed with wildlife with the Uganda Kob being the most dominant. Kasenyi sector is the major breeding area for the Uganda Kobs within the park hence lions too, whose main meal is the Kobs, are also drawn to the area. There are at least 200 lions that are readily seen in the plains. The Kasenyi sector supports a diversity of grassland birds like the yellow throated long crow and the grey crown cranes.
Since the sector offers a good view of the King of the jungle. They hang around the plains to spot its prey. The park offers game drives into the plains for a good view of the pride. which is also the main tourist attraction to the park. The open savannah also offers a good view for photography. If you take time, you may get to see the lioness hunting its prey down.
Kasenyi plains also consist of the Kazinga channel. where one can enjoy the boat cruise and view game such as the crocodiles, hippos and elephants along the channel. It is also good for sport fishing.
Access to the plains is either a 5-6 hour road journey from Kampala. Or a 75minutes journey by plane from Entebbe Airport to Kasenyi Airstrip.
